LIVE: Mill Towns and Oil Cities: Labor, Legacy & Latent Harms

  • Palace Theatre 112 West 6th Avenue Corsicana, TX 75110 (map)

REGISTER HERE (EVENT IS FREE) NOTE: time above is EST. Actual event is at 5:30 pm Corsicana time.

At 4:30 p.m. I will read a brief excerpt from Mill Town and hopefully have a community conversation about the themes of the book, which I completed during my residency in Corsicana in 2019 and finished edits there in 2020.

This event marks the culmination of a week of educational events and workshops hosted in collaboration with the Corsicana Independent School District, Navarro College, and Corsicana Artist and Writer Residency. Completed during my residency at 100 West, Mill Town speaks to the shifting economic and cultural concerns of towns like Corsicana, set adrift in the slipstream of the American Dream.

At 6:00 p.m., following the author talk, a new exhibition of paintings by Armin Mühsam and pieced vintage silk works by Debra Smith - both 100 West resident alumni from Kansas City, Missouri - will open in Anteroom (four blocks north of the Palace Theatre) at 411 North Beaton Street in Corsicana.  A reception with light hors d'oeuvres will accompany the exhibition. Additional Anteroom event details here.

Mill Town is available at the Residency’s Storefront, at the corner of 5th Avenue and Commerce Street in Corsicana, and will be the subject of their next book club on November 9th. And I will be there too!
