PANEL with authors Lacy Johnson, Emily Raboteau, Cinelle Barnes.
What role can writers play in an era of compounding environmental disasters? Some writers use their craft to bear witness to an increasingly unlivable world; others go further, not only addressing the connections between hazard and harm, violence and vulnerability, but also taking action to repair, and compelling others to do the same. These writers will discuss how our work makes possible (or fails to make possible) ways of reimagining how we can evolve in this moment of unprecedented urgency.
Some of the most urgent work being published today operates at the intersection of literary excellence and climate activism. As several of the most prominent writers in this field, panelists will give context to a literary movement that may come to define a generation. Panelists write about environmental injustice, its links to racial violence and disenfranchisement, as well as the disproportionate impact of disaster in an international context, and approach these topics from many perspectives.
